“Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.”

This woman didn’t knew much about Jesus but she had enough faith to go and knock on the right door, asking “have mercy on me!” At least she knew Lord had mercy ! But she had to overcome a lot of difficulties :

  • the Lord’s silence : ” Jesus did not answer a word”
  • the disdain of the disciples : “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
  • the seemingly interdiction due to her being a pagan : “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
  • then this hard word of the Lord : “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”

But this word “dogs” frequently used by the jewish to adress the pagans was not used that way by Jesus, it was used to prove the great faith of this woman, as she answered “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”

Despite all of the obstacles, this woman showed her faith to the Lord, that’s whay Jesus told her “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”

And that’s what Jesus is expecting us to do, not to worry about all the appearent issues, but to have faith first !

Prayer of the day : Lord Jesus, help me overcome all the hurdles. May my faith be a proof of your power. May you answer my prayer by saying “you have great faith! Your request is granted.” Amen.
