I received a text message from a caucasian girlfriend saying “What do you think of henna? Do you think i can use it on my hair? And if so, can you lend a hand Nunaa? ;-)” I don’t really take time to think when it comes to helping in hair issues, i just usually go for “yes”. So we decided to go ahead and try henna on caucasian hair /J’avais reçu un texto d’une amie d’origine caucasienne me demandant “Que pense-tu du henné? Tu crois que je peux m’en servir sur mes cheveux? Et si oui ça te dit d’essayer sur moi?” Je suis incapable de réfléchir quand on me demande un coup de main capillaire, en général la réponse qui fuse instantanément est “oui”. Alors je me suis lancée dans une session henné sur cheveux occidentaux.

Her hair being fine, my goal was all about not breaking the hair strands, so if you are going to try this remember the texture of the paste is quite thick, you want to manipulate your hair with extra care / Avec ces cheveux fins, mon objectif était de ne pas casser les cheveux, alors si jamais vous vous lancez, gardez en mémoire que le mélange est très épais & lourd, manipulez les cheveux avec beaucoup de précaution.
Leaving the mix on for about 30mn so that the hair can soak up all the properties / On laisse poser 30mn environ pour que les cheveux absorbent les vertus du henné
As the henna tends to dry out a lot, i went for all moisturizing products / Comme le henné a tendance a assécher les cheveux, je n’ai choisi que des produits hydratants.
I really wanted to give you guys her personal take on the henna session so i asked her a few questions / Je voulais aussi que vous ayez son avis propre sur cette session de henné alors je lui ai posé quelques questions
1. Do you frequently condition your hair? / Fais tu régulièrement des soins sur tes cheveux?
>>> Yes, i buy hair masks in stores, those for fine hair and dry ends. I also do hot oil treatments on my ends that tend to break and get split. My scalp is very capricious, unpredictable and doesn’t like products we find on the market, so i regularly do scalp massages with jojoba oil to regulate sebum. after each shampoo i apply a nut size of aloe vera gel to calm down any itchy feeling and it works wonders!! / Oui, des masques trouvés dans le commerce pour le cheveux fins et les pointes sèches. Je fais également des bains d’huile sur mes pointes qui ont tendance à casser et à faire des fourches. J’ai aussi un cuir chevelu capricieux qui n’aime pas les produits du commerce, je le masse donc régulièrement avec de l’huile de jojoba pour réguler le sébum. Après chaque shampoing, je passe une noix de gel d’aloe pour calmer les démangeaisons et ca marche super bien !!!

>>> I don’t really remember, i think browsing the web looking for natural ways to take care of my hair / Je ne me souviens plus vraiment, je pense que c est en fouillant sur le net des soins naturels pour les cheveux que je suis tombée dessus.
3. What brand of henna did you choose? Where did you get it? / Quelle marque de henné as-tu choisie? Achetée ou?
>>> Henna biological distributed by Nomade Palize, bought it in a bio store, Biocoop / Henné biologique distribué par Nomade Palize, acheté dans un Biocoop
4. How was your hair prior to the henna session? / Comment étaient tes cheveux avant l’application du soin henné/conditionneur?
>>> Breaking, dry ends and oily roots, very dull / Cassant pointes sèches et racines grasses, ternes
5. Have you experienced any pulling/heat during the application? / As-tu ressenti des tiraillements/sensation de chaleur pendant l’application?
>>> Oui quand ca sèche ca tire, mais pas d’autre point désagréable dans mes souvenirs
6. Combien de temps avez-vous laissé poser le soin?
>>> About 30mn / Environ 30mn
7. Can you describe the state of your hair while rinsing? / Peux-tu décrire l’état de tes cheveux au rinçage?
>>> Rinsing was quite tedious, henna requires you to rinse again and again. And rinse again. When well rinsed, the hair feels squeaky (may not be really clear), it feels like laundry washed without softener and dried to the sun, see what i mean?? straight, rough…crrrk crrrk / Rinçage un peu galère, le henné nécessite de rincer rincer et encore rincer et encore. Une fois les cheveux bien rincés sensation pas très agréable de cheveux qui crissent ( c’est peut-être pas très clair), comme du linge qu’on aurait lavé sans assouplissant et fait sécher au soleil, tu vois?? raides, rêches….crrrrk crrrrkr
8. Was the hair conditionner after the henna? If so what did you use / Avez-vous procédé a un soin après le henné? Si oui lequel?
>>> Yes, a moisturizing shampoo from Elasta QP and a moisturizing conditionner by Suave / Oui, un shampoing hydratant de Elasta QP et un après-shampoing de la marque Suave.
9. How was your hair after drying / Après séchage, comment étaient tes cheveux?
>>> Soft, shiny, and lightly enlightened / Doux, brillant, et légèrement éclaircis
10. Do you think you will do another henna session? / Pense-tu recommencer une session de henné?
>>> Certainly, but for the moment i give a break to my hair. I cut a little more than 20cm about a month ago and i just got a perm (hehe i jumped on the bandwagon). With big rollers, purple and grey, i don’t have curls but a natural wavy effect… good bye straight hair so i may come back another time 😉 / Certainement, mais pour l’instant je laisse mes cheveux se reposer. J’avais coupé un peu plus de 20 cm il y a un mois et je viens de faire une permente (hihi, j ai passé le cap), réalisée avec des gros bigoudis (les violets et les gris), j ai pas de bouclettes mais juste un petit effet ondulé naturel …. fini les baguettes alors je reviendrais peut-être une autre fois 😉
