The thing with working from home is that you have to be organized. There is no way you’d do otherwise. Because otherwise, you’ll actually waste a lot more time than if you were in a office with a boss right after your ears always asking you not to waste his time / La difficulté quand on travaille de chez soi c’est qu’il faut rester organisé. Impossible d’y arriver autrement. How-to-be-the-boss-nunaavane

Now the hard time comes when you are actually working for someone and for yourself at home. This is when i think you can say you are the boss. Because you have to be twice organized, not only if you don’t want to get fired, but also because you have your own goals to achieve. But one of your 2 jobs will suffer from this on the long run. Here are the three things i have learned on how to be the boss when you’re not your unique boss – yet / La vraie galère c’est quand on travaille déjà pour quelqu’un d’autre et pour soi-même.

TAKE YOUR TIME IN THE MORNING / PRENDRE SON TEMPS LE MATIN

Ok this won’t help you if you are an eternal latecomer. But you may want to read it anyways. Set your alarm at least 1:30hr before you actually leave the house. Take your time when you wake-up. Make yourself a good breakfast, and if you don’t like to eat in the morning, take your time to do something you like : stretch your body, a tea or a cup of coffee, do your make-up, take a long shower etc… I like to wake-up and pray, this gives me the peace of mind for the day as i know i gave it all to God. Do what works best for you and then go to work.

FOLLOW YOUR SCHEDULE / SUIVRE SON PLANNING

If you want to use the 24hrs we are given a day and use them well, you have to follow your daily plan. And don’t give me the “oh i don’t need one”. Yes we all do. I think it is “almost” easier when you work on a daily basis in an office because you can take off the 9-5 shift off. Then is when you have to really follow your schedule. Set the time for your personal work and follow it : answer your emails, edit your pictures, blog text and/or videos etc…

If it can help here is mine : i get back home after work at 6pm : time to work out. I work out 30mns a day, 5 days out of 7. It helps me be in shape and i actually like it. 6:45pm : shower. The 2nd shower of the day is always the one following the work out. 7 to 8:30 : mini-me’s homework, dinner, tv show. 9pm : put baby girl to sleep and get myself a big cup of tea. Work on my personal project. 11:30-12pm : bed time. I usually already have my make-up off, scarf on as i have another shower after i work out. And i only skip this schedule when i decide to take an evening for me and go to the movies with the sweetheart / Si cela peut vous aider voici une idée du mien : je rentre après le travail vers 18h : sport.

KNOW WHAT YOUR LONG TIME GOAL IS / SAVOIR QUEL EST L’OBJECTIF A LONG TERME

Don’t forget that you are doing all this for a purpose. Have you defined it? Then keep it in mind. Always. Wether you want to keep working the corporate way, or you want to quit your office to be your own boss, you have to remember what is that you really love. Then do what you love, do it the best way you can do it / N’oubliez pas que vous faites tout cela dans un but précis. L’avez-vous défini? Oui?
